The people of Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, are dealing with a number of problems, including a crumbling sewage and drainage system, dirty ponds infested with mosquitoes, dusty roads, and a lack of public transportation. Raipur, along with the remaining six state seats, will be voting in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 7. Since 1996, the BJP has consistently prevailed in the Raipur parliamentary seat. In the constituency that Bais served seven times in, 2009 saw the heavyweight Congress candidate Bhupesh Baghel defeated by a margin of over 58,000 votes by BJP veteran Ramesh Bais. In the 2019 elections, Sunil Soni of the BJP defeated Pramod Dubey of the Congress by a margin of almost 3.48 lakh votes.
